THE SPOTLIGHT
The Spotlight series is a labor of love that was inspired by my personal journey of being a first-generation Latina woman working in technology. I experienced, first-hand, how difficult it can be to navigate spaces when you don’t see others who look like you. I believe that equal representation is critical now more than ever and through this labor of love, I’m focused on putting a spotlight on stories that matter: stories of identity, equality, opportunity, and creativity.
EDITION 07: ATHLETES
My brother Carlos and I launched a wellness company in 2022 called Function f(x) Wellness which all started when we bonded over our love of training and shared mission of creating more access to the outdoors for black and brown communities. Through Function, we want to spotlight athletes of color who share our methodology around training for functionality and longevity. Training is a lifestyle.
EDITION 06: COMUNIDAD
Having a supportive community has been one of the most special things in my life. Culture and community have shown me that, no matter what, you always have a tribe of people who want to see you win. To kick off Latine/Hispanic Heritage Month, I wanted to feature men and women who have been shining examples of what a true comunidad should be. Siempre para la cultura.
EDITION 05: COWORKERS
In honor of my upcoming three-year anniversary at Adobe, I wanted to highlight a few women who I have had the opportunity to meet and work with throughout my time at Adobe. It’s been a wonderful experience seeing other fellow women of color unapologetically taking up space, navigating the corporate world with grace and intent, and genuinely fighting for true change. May we never stop.
EDITION 04: MUJERES
Growing up, I would always hear the saying that “you can’t be what you can’t see.” Which is why, as I’ve gotten older, I have intentionally and proactively surrounded myself around fellow women who I can learn from, support, and most importantly, grow with. Here’s to celebrating, embracing, and appreciating women and womanhood not just today, but everyday.
EDITION 03: LEADERS
Being a leader goes beyond just having a title that implies that responsibility. Being a leader is about having the humility, accountability, courage, and most importantly, vision to do what you believe is right. I’m humbled that I get to be surrounded by incredible men and women who understand that in order to create the change we need to see, sometimes we have to be the ones to lead the way.
EDITION 02: MENTORS
I view life as an opportunity for constant education and limitless progression. But as much as life has given me countless opportunities to learn, grow, and evolve, I’ve realized how important it is to find people who not only believe in you, but teach you. I’m lucky to learn from these individuals and have them by my side as I step into the next phase of my career.
EDITION 01: CREATIVES
When I was in the midst of a large career transition after leaving my job of five years, I knew I wanted to take time to reinvent myself. Instead of hiring creative professionals that I did not know, I made the conscious decision to hire creatives whose work I admire and who happen to be friends of mine. I wanted to support them, learn from them, and most importantly, pay them what they deserved.
